Landmark Maritime
Law Decision Reported in WALL STREET JOURNAL
The Wall Street Journal
- February 11, 1998
The Wall Street Journal reported on this case in which I
successfully represented a shipping company, which defeated the narrow
interests of insurance defense attorneys, in a lawsuit where attorneys
for U.S. insurance companies were seeking to compel all foreign
shipping companies to litigate claims, regarding damages to goods
shipped by sea, in U.S. Courts, regardless of where the damage
occurred, or the home country of the ship involved or of its owners.
The court's decision, which pleased American shipping companies since
it "makes American shipping companies more competitive", had
significant financial implications that prompted the inclusion of this
article in the The Wall Street Journal. (Click the image of the

Coast Guard's
Unjustified Charges Against Marine Pilots Reported in Journal of
Commerce
The Journal of Commerce
- May 21, 1993
When the Coast Guard brought unjustified charges against California
State Marine Pilots alleging cheating on their federal licensing
tests, The Journal of Commerce reported on the case. As
the article quotes me explaining, "These aren't inexperienced
people, . . . they've been sailing for years"
and "They did not engage in misconduct and are not involved in a
conspiracy. We are dumbfounded as to why the charges were filed. The
facts are not there." (Click the image of the
